Por La Gente has been hosting its annual basketball invitational since 1985. The first tournament drew eight local teams and was held at Breakthrough Community Center which is now the Dr. Martin Luther King Center in Racine, WI. PLG has since moved the tournament venue to the Douglas Park Community Center and also participated in the renaming ceremony of the new Cesar Chavez Center.  The basketball tounament has attracted hispanic teams from Southeastern Wisconsin and even throughout the Midwest. In 2007, The Untouchables from Kenosha, WI won the basketball invitational for the ninth time. More than any other team in the history of the tournament. 

Last year, PLG began collaborating with local area high schools. In April 2010, PLG in collaboration with the Park High School Booster Club hosted the annual basketball tournament at Park High School. Three courts were available for tournament play, the concession stand was in the gym which was very accomodating for teams and fans. PLG will continue providing a competetive atomosphere for basketball and encouraging participation within the hispanic community; therfore, this year for 2011, we changed the basketball venue to the Sports Plex. We hope that the fans, spectators, and most importantly, the teams appreciate and enjoy the complex.
